Mr. Olansen focuses his practice on estate planning, individual and entity tax planning, asset protection and a variety of related transactional matters. He is experienced in drafting and implementing estate planning documents and assists clients with the administration of trusts and estates, whether through the probate process or in private trusts. He also has extensive experience in individual, trust, estate and entity income tax compliance and preparation.
Mr. Olansen assists clients in obtaining private letter rulings from the IRS, and routinely represents clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities in tax disputes, appeals and litigation. Tax-exempt organizations, including entities ranging from small private foundations to large public charities, also benefit from Mr. Olansen's tax counsel. In addition, Mr. Olansen provides specialized legal and tax advice in the areas of business succession planning, business entity start-ups, mergers, acquisitions, corporate re-organizations and divorce.
Mr. Olansen and his wife reside in Virginia Beach with their four children. He is also a certified public accountant, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a member of Delta Co., 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division.
